About the studio
A design-build studio that owns what it builds
Parsons Design Build started in Scottsdale in 2015 as SDP Development, building and renovating the properties our hospitality group operates. It took its current name in 2021 and has grown into a studio working in two regions, for ourselves and for a small number of clients.
Why owner-builders design differently
When you are going to run the property, you stop designing for the photo and start designing for the tenth guest of the season. Doors that survive luggage. Pools that clean themselves. Casitas that rent on their own. Every project on this site was underwritten as a business before it was drawn.
We keep the team small and the responsibility undivided. Our Head of Design produces the boards, plans and renderings; our own foreman runs construction with a bench of subcontractors we have used for years. There is no general contractor to blame and no architect to wait for.
Where we work
Scottsdale, Paradise Valley and Phoenix, where the studio began. And Boothbay Harbor, Maine, where we are restoring a village of historic inns as one collection.
What we believe
Buildings have souls. Most just need someone willing to find them. We don't flip properties; we free them. Style is not decoration and personality is not marketing. They are the architecture of an experience, and when you get them right, people do not want to leave.
